VIDEO – New Cello Factory Creates 100 Jobs

North Yorkshire LCD TV brand Cello Electronics announces the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.

Cello has invested one million pounds in a new 45,000 square foot facility to house their production, storage, showroom, offices and after sales service operations. One hundred people have been employed at the factory and this figure is set to rise as production grows to meet seasonal demands throughout the year. Recently ranked as a Tech Track 100 company Cello is an independent UK business that manufactures a wide range of LCD TVs and accessories.

Due to export growth in Germany and elsewhere more than 50 per cent of Cello’s Bishop Auckland production will be heading overseas. Within the UK, Cello’s products are marketed under the ‘cello’ brand as well as the retailers’ own brand. Cello’s UK customers include several well-respected retailers such as Marks & Spencer, Curry’s and Argos. Cello is enjoying strong sales at a time when growth eludes many western economies.

Brian Palmer, Chief Executive of Cello, explains the reasons for this: “Product quality is our driving force, and in particular this has helped us build our business in Germany where quality is the key pre-requisite to sales. For Germany we have to meet standards that go beyond what is expected even from many UK retailers. For this reason we have to raise the bar on quality and this has brought great dividends.” He continues: “The creation of 100 jobs is excellent news for the local economy and demonstrates our commitment to the UK manufacturing sector. Our new factory will enable us to continue the production of innovative, affordable TVs, which will be sold both in the UK and beyond.”

The company invests heavily in research and development and is subsequently able to bring new technology to the UK market at the same time or earlier than many of the major Japanese and Korean brands. It launched the UK’s first ever Internet enabled TV – the iViewer – in 2009 and in 2011 it launched a range of cutting-edge and affordable 3D TVs. As well as opening the new factory, 2012 will see Cello launch a new range of small screen TVs, which will be manufactured in the new facility at Bishop Auckland. Available in 19”, 22” and 24” screen sizes, the new Traveller TVs will have built-in satellite capabilities and DVD players, making them ideal for holidaymakers and travel enthusiasts.
