Does it make sense to buy a traveller TV that also has a DVD player?

Does it make sense to buy a traveller TV that also has a DVD player?

It is a good question, in an era like the present one in which so much entertainment is dominated by streaming. Is a traveller TV with a DVD player – in other words, a TV that is designed for travel, with a DVD player integrated into it as part of a single unit – any longer necessary in the 2020s? Or could you cope fine without it?

To answer that question, you will need to consider your own travel preferences, needs, and habits. There are definitely circumstances in which acquiring a traveller TV with a DVD player can make a lot of sense, such as if:

  • You have a collection of DVDs you like to carry around with you

We’re presuming here that you don’t exactly spend all your time walking around with a rucksack crammed with DVDs, but that you nonetheless like to bring some physical entertainment media with you on your travels.

This could be as simple a situation as keeping five, 10, or 20 DVDs in your campervan, motorhome, or boat. After all, traveller TVs are designed to be used in such environments, and you might own certain rare shows or movies on DVD that don’t show up on streaming services.

Alternatively, you might be set to go travelling with kids, and they may be fussy about what they like to watch. So, especially if you anticipate ending up in rural and/or isolated areas where the Wi-Fi might not be very good, you may be thankful for having invested in a traveller TV with a DVD player, which is a non-Internet-dependent source of entertainment.

  • It would be quick and convenient to use, wherever you go

It is also possible that whatever travelling you plan to do will be a bit more on the “spontaneous” side, and you may not know whether you will end up somewhere with poor Wi-Fi. In that case, why take the risk anyway, when you have an existing collection of DVDs and the option of buying a high-quality and affordable traveller TV with a DVD player?

When you invest in one of our 12-volt TVs that incorporate DVD playback capabilities – such as the C2224F-TRAV 22” or the C2425WSF – TRAV 24” – you won’t have to fiddle around with the menus of different streaming apps, trying to figure out which platform has that TV show or film.

Instead, you’ll be able to insert the DVD and enjoy, in the knowledge that the version of the programme you view won’t have been edited or censored by the powers-that-be since you last watched it.

  • You could simply do with a small and lightweight TV

Another crucial point worth adding is that there’s no rule dictating a traveller TV must only be used in a travelling vehicle such as a motorhome, campervan, or boat.

Indeed, the relatively modest dimensions and lightweight nature of traveller TVs have led to many people buying one as a “second TV” for their bedroom or kitchen, or even as a “main” TV for a cramped apartment.

Whatever the exact situation, a traveller TV from a reputable brand like Cello Electronics can work beautifully in the home. When the DVD player is built into the unit, this can help save space and minimise the clutter of external devices.

So, when would a traveller TV with a DVD player not be such a good idea?

If you never or rarely use DVDs, or if you are happy with other sources of entertainment that your chosen traveller TV makes possible (such as Freeview Play, and/or streaming from your phone thanks to Bluetooth capability), these are circumstances in which a traveller TV with a DVD player might not make so much sense.

Whatever your own exact circumstances and needs are, you can expect to find a traveller TV that caters to them when you turn to the Cello range. For any further help that you might require, why not reach out directly to our customer care team?
